Gratuities on Disney Adventure: how the daily tip works
A fixed daily amount is auto-added per guest to cover your dining and stateroom crew — here's exactly how it works and how to adjust it.
What a "gratuity" is here
A gratuity is a tip for the crew who look after you. On Disney Cruise Line you do not have to work out who to tip or how much at each meal — instead, a fixed daily amount is automatically added per guest to your stateroom account (the running tab linked to your room). This is the standard, expected way tipping works on the ship, and it is separate from your cruise fare.
Although Disney Adventure sails from Singapore, your onboard account is billed in US dollars (USD) — so gratuities, like everything else onboard, are quoted in USD. The daily amount is fixed and predictable, which makes it easy to budget for.
Disney recommends a daily gratuity of US$16.00 per guest, per night in standard staterooms (roughly S$21), and US$27.25 per guest, per night for concierge staterooms and suites. It is charged for every guest in the room, including children and infants. Over a four-night sailing that is about US$64 per guest in a standard room — so a family of four should budget around US$256 before any extra tips.
Who the daily gratuity covers
The auto-gratuity is shared among the crew members who serve you most directly throughout your cruise. On Disney ships this typically means:
- Your dining team — the waiter and assistant waiter who follow you through rotational dining.
- Your stateroom host — the crew member who services your room.
- A share for the dining management who oversee the restaurants.
Specifically, the gratuity is shared among your dining room server, dining room assistant server, dining room head server, and your stateroom host (concierge guests also tip the assistant stateroom host and the Concierge Lounge team). It is pooled and split, so you do not need to tip these crew individually — the daily charge already accounts for them. Disney does not publish a per-role dollar breakdown.
What it does NOT cover
The daily gratuity covers your core dining and stateroom crew. It does not automatically cover everyone:
- Bar and drinks service has an automatic 18% gratuity added to each bar, beverage and wine purchase at the point of sale, separate from the daily charge. The same 18% applies to adult/premium specialty dining and deck-service tabs.
- Spa and salon services (Elemis at Sea) also carry an automatic 18% service charge on top of the listed treatment price.
- Room-service delivery and any crew who give you exceptional one-off help are tipped at your discretion, in cash if you wish.
Is it prepaid, or charged onboard?
By default the daily gratuity is added to your stateroom account during the cruise and charged to the card you registered at online check-in. Prepaying is optional: if you prefer, you can settle it ahead of time online through My Reservations in your Disney account. Either way the total is the same — prepaying just means it is already paid before you sail.
Can you adjust it?
Yes. The recommended gratuity is a default, not a locked fee — it is entirely optional. You can increase, reduce, or remove it at Guest Services during your cruise if you feel the service warranted more or less. Your onboard bill showing the gratuity is delivered to your stateroom before the cruise ends, so make any change before you settle up on the final morning. Most guests leave it as set; if a particular crew member went above and beyond, many add a little extra in cash on top.
How to budget for it
- Multiply the daily per-guest amount by the number of guests in your room and by the number of nights. That is your total gratuity for the cruise.
- If you prepay at booking, it will not appear on your onboard bill — so do not double-count it.
- If it is charged onboard, expect it to show up on your stateroom account each day and budget accordingly.
A worked example: a family of four on a four-night sailing pays about US$16 × 4 guests × 4 nights = US$256 in gratuities. Treat it as a meaningful, fixed part of the trip cost — not a rounding error.
Quick recap
- A fixed daily amount is auto-added per guest, covering your dining team, stateroom host, and dining management.
- It is separate from your fare and may be prepaid at booking or charged daily onboard.
- Bar drinks and spa services usually carry their own separate gratuity.
- You can adjust the amount at guest services if you wish.
